“We need everything—because we have nothing.”
When the Russian invasion happened, people witnessed violence they had never imagined. To escape the incessant bombing they made the sudden and difficult decision to abandon everything they’ve ever known and to seek safety with their children somewhere.
The world is bearing witness to the deaths of innocent civilians. Bombs and shelling continue to escalate, damaging homes, hospitals, schools and other civilian infrastructure.
While unprecedented violence continues to unfold throughout our country, tens of thousands have been uprooted from their homes in Eastern Ukraine and are in need of humanitarian assistance. Nearly 7,000 people are fleeing by cars and on foot each day.
Many of them, who either lost their homes or who need additional support are being evacuated to shelters in Dnipro and Zaporizhzhya. Most of them are women, children and the elderly: from children who are too afraid to fall asleep to people who feel like they can’t breathe to patients with high blood pressure at risk of stroke.
Their shelters are schools, industrial premises and soviet type dormitories. There are very poor facilities of living: with no privacy and washing facilities, queues to disgusting toilets, no fridges, microwaves and washing machines.
Our aim is to relieve their lives, providing vital necessities and making decent living conditions via:
— giving them essential relief and hygiene items, simple medical and food products;
— installing washing machines and boilers, fridges and microwaves;
— making simple renovations in toilets and bathrooms.
